Free H20 bro… New legislation to hydrate your night!

On Tuesday 27 July 2010 the Victorian State Government introduced a bill to parliament to amend the Liquor Control Reform Act 1998.

Step Back Think first contacted Consumer Affairs Minister Tony Robinson regarding the issue in November 2009, so it’s great to finally see some results.

The bill will effect two main changes. First, it will now be law for all pubs, bars and nightclubs to provide free drinking water (instead of cheeky bartenders forcing you to buy bottled water). Second, all employees of licensed venues will be legally obligated to undertake Responsible Service of Alcohol training, which shockingly wasn’t compulsory before.

It’s encouraging to see the government taking a proactive approach to liquor licensing and taking measures to create a safer environment in licensed venues. This in turn will lead to happier punters and better nights out.
